Here are a few of my favorite things to come out of 2022:
Favorite Song
This one:
Wandering Day from Rings of Power
I feel like I've graduated from my "I see a faith transition anthem in every song I hear" tendency, but c'mon, this song?
"The sun is fast fallin' beneath trees of stone The light in the tower, no longer my home" "I trade all I've known for the unknown ahead" "Call to me, call to me lands far away For I must now wander this wandering day" "not all who wonder or wander are lost"
It could not be helped.
Such a great addition to Tolkienien anthems.
My favorite lyrics even made their own page in my art journal:
I interpret "lands far away" to be "future self far away"
I listened to this song whilst sipping my morning coffee every day for a week straight.
Favorite Movie
Did I make this entire post mostly so I could recommend this movie?
I did.
If you get nothing else out of this email subscription- please let it be that you go watch this movie. It's on Hulu right now and it is a masterpiece.
Written by women, directed by women, produced by women.
A beautiful celebration of sexuality.
Could not have loved it more.
Emma Thompson’s character is 63 and hires a sex worker for the first time. The entire movie takes place in their hotel room.
If you’ve seen it, tell me what you thought in the comments. If you haven’t, go watch and then return and report.
TV Show
Severance
I don't have anything profound to say about this show, other than I just really enjoyed it. The finale? Literally on the edge of my seat the entire time.
Book
I wrote an ode to my-favorite-book-from-last-year-turned-my-favorite-book-ever here.
Another book that I just savored every word of this year was a short little book of poetry called You Better Be Lightning.
I stumbled onto this book from my friend's Audible account I mooch off of. I listened to it on a hike and immediately came home and ordered a physical copy.
Just a book full of goosebumps.
My very favorite kind of poetry- raw, brutally honest and beautifully written.
Ok your turn. Tell us your favorite book, movie, song or TV show from last year.
Favorite movie: Everything, Everywhere, All at Once. Favorite TV show: House of the Dragon (closely followed by Severance, also loved!). Favorite book: Court of Mist & Fury (in my smutty book era). Favorite song: God is a Freak by Peach PRC
