What if Jesus was a woman and perfectly represented the divine feminine?

What if Jesus was a woman and perfectly represented the divine feminine?

Jesus is a wonderful representation of the divine masculine, but can we imagine a divine feminine version?

After I published my Substack article on “Why Religious Tools Don’t Work for Women,” my friend and I were discussing the roles of degraded/divine masculine and feminine.

Go read it if you haven’t, but here’s brief summary:

  • Degraded masculine prioritizes needs of self over others in an unhealthy way.

  • Divine masculine prioritizes needs of others over self in a healthy way.

  • Degraded feminine prioritizes needs of others over self in an unhealthy way.

  • Divine feminine prioritizes needs of self over others in a healthy way.

In order for the masculine to move from degraded→ divine it must lose the self. In order for the feminine to move from degraded→divine it must build the self.

My friend said, “You mentioned that finding a good example of divine feminine was difficult because every woman our society holds up represents the divine masculine role- selfless, empathetic, giving. But I was thinking the same could be said of finding a good example of divine masculine since we hold up the divine feminine role for men- protector, fighter of injustice, leader.

I mean can you even think of one example of a man perfectly representing the divine masculine? The only one I can think of is Jesus.”

“Whoa.” I said. “Do you think that’s part of why his legacy has lasted all these centuries? Because it is so rare to see a man offered power, refuse it and encapsulate traditionally feminine traits so perfectly? Empathetic, compassionate, merciful, soft, kind?”

Such an interesting thought.

This idea came up in a spiritual direction session of mine a few days later when my client asked “Men have their perfect example of divine masculine in Jesus to work towards, but what about women? What would it have looked like if Jesus were female? Perfectly encapsulating the divine feminine?”

Oooooo what a fun brain puzzle!

I told her I would chew on it and perhaps write a Substack article on it.

This is that Substack.
