BUT WHAT ABOUT THE KIDS!!?!??!?

Facing our fears of parenting without the structure, certainty and beliefs of religion.
4

I have been a practicing spiritual director for all of one week (what a glorious week it’s been!).

Every session so far has been surprisingly different in terms of differing beliefs and pain points in the spiritual journey.

But one concern came up in every session so far (all five :) : parenting without the structure, certainty and beliefs of religion.

For some, the fear is thick and gripping. For others, a distant anxious hum.

I have it too- this post-religion parenting fear. What if having some founding myth or shared story is somehow necessary to my kids’ well-being?? What if they are missing some key ingredient to being connected and grounded?

I won’t spoil it by typing out all my thoughts here, but watch the video to listen to nine minutes of me taking this jumbled knot of parenting fears and gently massaging them out.

Here’s why, I really think the kids are gonna be ok.

My favorite part of this substack is hearing from you all, so tell me: do you have these parenting fears? What would you say is the biggest one for you?
