Okay I haven’t watched the video yet because I am on the sidelines of a trampoline park right now, but I wanted to share an experience with my 7 year old in the car on the way here. She told me her friends are actually her siblings because a long time ago the entirety of the human race came from two people. I said, “yes, that is a myth of the origins of humanity, and I think it’s nice to think of your friends as siblings.” We established the basic definition of a myth then I said, “would you like to know what science says about the origins of humanity?” I then gave her the most basic explanation of evolution I could and she got so excited and said, “so I have ancestors who are apes??!!?” Then she went on an enthusiastic rant about time travel and meeting those ancestors as well as dinosaurs.

while myths are fascinating and valuable because they contain wisdom and truths about ourselves, I don’t know that presenting them as myths makes them any less grounding for children, and at least in my daughter’s case, reality is so much more interesting.

Yes! I have felt this guilt gut punch- it kind of comes out of nowhere. Love the video - love seeing your face as you pet our feelings like kittens 😂and tell us we don’t have to feel guilty. There is too much parent guilt in the world around things we should not feel guilty about. Thanks Celeste!
